Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Murder Mystery Party mobile app ("the app") handles and why. The app is operated by Nathan Officer ("we", "us").
The short version
The app has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics or tracking. We handle only what is needed to run a game, and game data is discarded when the game ends.
Information we handle
- Display name. The name you type in is shown to the other players in your game.
- Player identifier. The app creates a random identifier on your device. It is used to keep your seat if you reconnect and to check whether you have bought the Premium unlock. It is not linked to your real identity.
- Gameplay data. What you do in a game, such as your role, tasks, votes and minigame results, is sent to our game server so the game can run.
- Push notification token. If you allow notifications, your device's push token is used to alert you to game events (for example, a meeting being called) while your phone is locked. You can turn this off in the app's settings or in your device settings.
- Purchase information. If you buy the Premium unlock, the purchase is processed by Apple or Google. We receive confirmation that the purchase was made, tied to your player identifier. We never see your payment card details.
- Technical data. Like any internet service, our hosting provider may briefly log technical details such as your IP address when the app connects.
Camera
The camera is used only to scan a game's QR code so you can join it. Images are processed on your device and are not stored or sent to us.
How long we keep it
Game data, including display names, gameplay data and push tokens, is held in the game server's memory only while the game is running and is discarded when the game ends. Your display name, player identifier and settings stay on your device until you delete the app. Purchase records are kept by our purchase provider for as long as needed to honour your purchase.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information. We share it only with the service providers that make the app work:
- Fly.io hosts the game server.
- Expo, Apple and Google deliver push notifications.
- RevenueCat, Apple and Google process and verify in-app purchases.
We may also disclose information if required to by law.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices
You can change your display name or turn off notifications in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes the information stored on your device. To ask about or request deletion of any information associated with your player identifier, contact us at the address below.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
